Episode: S1E4 —“The Warriors of Kyoshi”“Suki and the Kyoshi Warriors were originally meant to be a part of a one-off story, but they caught the imagination of the artists and writers on our crew (not to mention the fans), and we soon found ourselves planning to bring them back.”
“We are big admirers of traditional Japanese clothing. Suki’s and the Kyoshi Warriors’ designs provided a great opportunity to pay homage to that rich aesthetic. We imagined the island of Kyoshi was an important fishing port, so there were often unruly sailors wandering their quaint streets and causing trouble. Avatar Kyoshi established the Kyoshi Wariors in her image as a formidable female police force to protect the island’s inhabitants.”
